See the text appear while you record
Live transcription runs recognition on the audio as it is captured, so the text builds up on screen during the take instead of afterwards.
Turn it on
- Open Settings from the app and find the Transcription section.
- Set the transcription language to the one that will be spoken.
- Turn live transcription on.
- Start a recording — the text appears as people speak, and is saved with the take.
What it is good for
- An interview, where seeing an answer written down tells you what to ask next.
- A meeting where you want to check a number was heard correctly, then and there.
- Accessibility — following a conversation by reading it.
- A long dictation, where you want to catch a misheard word before you have said another thousand.
What it costs
- Battery. Recognition runs continuously alongside capture.
- Accuracy, slightly: live recognition cannot look ahead the way a pass over a finished file can.
- Your free transcription allowance, if you are not on PRO.
- Nothing else — the recording itself is unaffected, and you can transcribe again afterwards.

- Can I transcribe again afterwards for a better result?
- Yes. Running it on the finished recording usually reads a little better, because it has the whole file to work from.
- Does it work with the screen off?
- Recording continues with the screen off; the text catches up when you open the app again.
- Which languages?
