Cut a section out of the middle of a recording
Trimming handles the ends. When the problem is in the middle — a door slamming, five minutes of small talk, something a speaker asked you not to keep — Cut is the tool.
Cut a section
- Open the recording and tap Trim in the tool row.
- Switch the mode to Cut.
- Drag the handles around the part you want gone.
- Play it back — what you hear is the result, with the selection removed and the halves joined.
- Tap Save, then Save as copy if you might want the original back.
Making the join invisible
- Cut in a pause, not in the middle of a word or a breath.
- A cut between two different rooms is audible however clean the edit is — the background changes. Cut where the background is the same on both sides.
- Repeat for each section rather than trying to do everything at once; each cut is easier to place.
- Check the join with headphones before you replace the original.
FAQ
- Can I remove several sections at once?
- One selection at a time. Cut the first, save, then cut the next — the waveform redraws each time so the next edge is easy to find.
- What happens to marks inside the cut?
- Marks inside the removed section go with it. Everything after shifts to its new position.
- Is the transcript updated?
- No — transcribe again after a cut if you need the text to match the audio.
