Are my recordings private?

A recorder hears things you would not put in an email. It is worth knowing exactly where those recordings go — which, here, is nowhere.

What stays on the device

• Every recording, in the app's own folder.
• Transcripts, marks, tags and names.
• Your settings and your search history — there is nothing to search on a server, because search runs locally.
• There is no account to create and no profile to build; the app has no backend of its own.

The one case where audio leaves

Speech recognition runs on the device where your iPhone and your language support it. Where they do not, iOS sends that request to Apple's speech recognition service under Apple's privacy policy. That is the only circumstance in which any audio leaves your iPhone, and it never goes to Novaz.

What else goes out

• StoreKit, when you buy or restore a subscription — handled by Apple, and we never see your payment details.
• The list of other Novaz apps shown in Settings, which is fetched from novaz.app and sends nothing about you.
• A small settings file so we can adjust defaults without an update. It contains no personal data.
• No advertising SDK, no analytics SDK, no crash reporter with your content in it.

For genuinely sensitive recordings

• Use a device passcode and Face ID — that is what encrypts the app's folder at rest.
• Think before sharing: once a file leaves through the share sheet, it is in the other app's hands.
• Remember that deleting the app deletes the recordings with it.
• Ask consent before recording anyone. It is the law in many places, and good practice everywhere.
