Can you record a phone call on an iPhone?

This is the most asked question in the category, so here is the straight answer: iOS gives no app access to call audio. Voice Recorder cannot record a phone call, and neither can any other app on the App Store, whatever the listing says.

What the App Store’s “call recorders” actually do

• Most merge your call into a three-way call with their own server, which records it. That routes your conversation through a company you have never heard of.
• Some record only your side, from the microphone, and quietly say so in the fine print.
• Many charge a subscription per minute on top.
• Some do nothing at all beyond recording the room.

What Apple provides

From iOS 18.1, the Phone app can record a call itself on supported devices and regions: tap the record button in the call, and everyone on the line hears an announcement that recording has started. The recording is saved in the Notes app. That is the only way a call's own audio can be captured on an iPhone.
